Britt and Brooks will face a run-off in the Alabama Senate after no candidate reaches 50%
Former Senate official Katie Britt and Moe Brooks, R-Ala., Will face Alabama’s Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate next month, the Associated Press projects.
Britt holds the lead in the primary day voting, but will not reach the 50% threshold needed to avoid a run-off. Brooks, meanwhile, is leading veteran Mike Durant with enough to secure second place and a game against Britt, which is likely to be decided by the next US senator from Alabama.
“It’s clear tonight that the people of Alabama want new blood. Yes. They want someone to go to Washington, DC and shake it,” Brit told supporters, according to Fox News’s Ben Florence.
“Two months ago, experts declared our campaign dead in the water,” Brooks said. “Today? Call me Lazarus! Return from the dead, resurrected by the citizens of Alabama, who understood who the true conservative of the MAGA was and voted for America in the first place. Thank you!”
Trump spokesman points to “huge victories” for approved candidates, despite heavy loss in Georgia
A spokesman for former President Donald Trump, Taylor Budovic, on Tuesday highlighted the strength of Trump’s support, even as one of his biggest enemies in the Republican Party defeats a Trump-backed opponent.
“President Trump continues to win everywhere after another huge night of victories for his approved candidates,” Budovic told Fox News, according to Paul Steinhauser. “Americans are clearly united around restoring President Trump’s leadership and policies in 2022 and beyond.”
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who opposed Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, deftly defeated former Sen. David Purdue, the former presidential candidate, on Tuesday to challenge the governor. Kemp’s victory was the largest ever by a Republican candidate vying for a Trump-approved opponent.
Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Rafensperger, who is also fighting Trump’s false allegations that the presidential election was stolen in 2020, is also running against MP Jody Hayes, R-Ga., Whom Trump has backed. This race has not yet been announced at 11pm on Tuesday.
However, Trump’s record in approving Republican primary elections is still stellar.
As of May 18, 96 percent of Trump-backed candidates had won the primary. This year alone, Trump’s approval boosted Ohio Senate nominee GOP JD Vance to a big comeback last month and elevated Pennsylvania Senate nominee Mehmet Oz to the lead in his race, which has yet to be called a week after the primary.
Kemp says “the battle is far from over”, says he wants to block Abrams from being governor, president
Georgia’s GOP Gov. Brian Kemp told supporters of his party’s victory on Tuesday that after his main victory over former Sen. David Purdue, the real battle begins against Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams.
“Our battle is far from over,” he said. “Tonight begins the struggle for the soul of our country to ensure that Stacey Abrams will not be our governor or the next president.
Lucy McBatt defeats Carolyn Bourdain in the Democratic primary in Georgia
Representative Lucy McBatt, D-Ga., Defeated Representative Carolyn Bourdeaux, D-Ga., In Georgia’s primary election on Tuesday, the Associated Press drafts, making Bourdain the last victim of the by-elections.
Due to relocation to Georgia, Macbate was forced to leave her county and face Burdo.
Bourdain is a member of the moderate Blue Dogs coalition, and its loss will slightly weaken the moderate Democrats in the House of Representatives.
Sarah Sanders won the Republican nomination for governor of Arkansas
Former White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders is expected to win the primary election for Republican governor of Arkansas, the Associated Press projects.
Supported at the start of the race by former President Trump, Sanders hopes to replace current Governor Asa Hutchinson, who has a limited term and has been governor of the state since 2015.

Trump-backed Ken Paxton wins Texas AG primary, leaving last Bush out of office
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday successfully tackled a major challenge from Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, which means the last member of the Bush political dynasty in office will soon lose his job.
Paxton’s victory, predicted by the Associated Press, is also a victory for former President Donald Trump, who backed the Attorney General’s re-election. Trump saw his election as Georgia’s governor and lose his secretary of state earlier Tuesday night.
Paxton is best known nationally for his attempts to legally change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election and for his aggressive actions in taking President Biden’s administration to justice. But he is facing numerous allegations of corruption as he seeks a third four-year term as Texas Attorney General.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Green wins primary after major challenge backed by the organization
Representative Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Ga., Won the Republican nomination for her seat on Tuesday after a major challenge backed by businesswoman Jennifer Strahan.
Green has garnered significant criticism from many in the GOP for his previous conflicting comments, including some that were anti-Semitic. Green apologized for many of her previous comments, but was nonetheless removed from her House Democrat committees.
Strahan was backed by the Republican Jewish Coalition and other DC figures such as Senator Bill Cassidy, R-La. But that wasn’t enough to make her defeat Trump Green’s supporter in her bright red area of North Georgia.
In Arkansas, Sarah Sanders prefers to win a GOP nomination, and Buzman hopes to retain a Senate seat
Polls in Arkansas have ended as former White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders is preferred to win the Republican nomination for governor, and incumbent Senator John Buzman hopes to repel his main rivals in a contested race.
Supported at the start of the race by former President Trump, Sanders hopes to win his party’s nomination in a bid to replace current governor Asa Hutchinson, who has a limited term and has been governor since 2015.
Ahead of Tuesday’s election, Sanders, who announced her candidacy for governor in January 2021, consistently voted before Francis Doc Washburn, her main rival. Washburn is a former radio talk show host who now has his own national podcast.

Kemp defeats Purdue in Georgia’s primary for governor, striking with Trump’s support
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp defeated former Sen. David Purdue in a primary election for Republican governor on Tuesday, striking the most significant blow to a candidate backed by former President Donald Trump.
Kemp’s victory over Perdue, predicted by the Associated Press, disrupts the trend of significant success for Trump with his major endorsements. As of May 18, 96 percent of Trump-backed candidates had won the primary. Trump’s approval boosted Ohio Sen. GOP nominee JD Vance to a big comeback victory last month and elevated Pennsylvania Senate nominee Mehmet Oz as the leader in his race, which has yet to be called a week after the primary.
But now Kemp, one of the Republicans Trump has been attacking the most since 2020, is heading for a general election against Democrat Stacey Abrams, and Purdue is currently out of public office.
“I just called the governor and congratulated him,” Purdue said on Tuesday. “I fully support Brian Camp ще tomorrow morning you will hear me go to work… to make sure Stacey Abrams is not the next governor of Georgia.”

Faced with accusations of corruption, Paxton is trying to deflect the main challenge from George P. Bush
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton faces a major challenge from George W. Bush on Tuesday in the Republican primary runoff for the top law enforcement official in Lone Star State.
Paxton, backed by former President Donald Trump, is known nationally for trying to legally change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election and for his aggressive actions in taking over President Biden’s administration in court. But he is facing numerous allegations of corruption as he seeks a third four-year term as Texas Attorney General.
Bush, twice elected to the state as Texas land commissioner, is the last elected member of his family’s political dynasty – which for four generations gave birth to two family members who rose to the presidency, George W. Bush and George W. Bush, and one who became Senator Prescott Bush.

Brooks, Brit and Durant fight for runoff in Republican Senate primary in Alabama
Polls in Alabama have closed as a candidate who has recently risen in opinion polls aims to get a seat from longtime Alabama Republican Senator Richard Shelby, who is stepping down at the end of his term.
Ahead of Tuesday’s election, the leading contenders for the Republican nomination for the Alabama Senate were Katie Boyd Britt, a former Shelby chief of staff who once chaired the Alabama Business Council; Representative Mo Brooks, R-Ala., An outspoken conservative in Congress who received Trump’s approval but later lost it; and Mike Durant, a state business owner and former Army pilot involved in the Black Hawk Fall incident.
The controversial GOP primary race for the Senate is likely to lead to a run-off election on June 21 if no candidate garners more than 50 percent of the vote on Tuesday.
