Sources – Pittsburgh Steelers expected to raise Omar Khan to take over GM

PITTSBURG – The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to nominate Omar Khan as their next general manager, sources told Adam Shefter from ESPN.

After interviews with more than a dozen candidates for the position of general manager, the Steelers selected Khan, who has been with the organization for more than two decades. He started with Steelers as football operations coordinator in 2001 and was promoted to director of football administration in 2011. He has spent the last six seasons as vice president of football and business administration. In this role, he was responsible for managing Steelers’ salary cap.

Khan was considered a favorite during the comprehensive search, which included interviews with Brandon Hunt, Steelers’ director of professional scouting. Outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert has announced his retirement after the 2021 season, but has left open the possibility of remaining in a consulting role after more than two decades with the Steelers.

The Steelers, meanwhile, have also hired Eagles vice president of staff Andy Weidle as their GM assistant, a source told ESPN’s Tim McMahon, confirming NFL reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala’s report.
