Google Hardware products aim to bring to market the best of Google’s software skills, but the department certainly has many quality control issues. The latest weird flaw in Google’s hardware is yellowing, distorting phone cases. According to The Verge, expensive, translucent plastic boxes from Google do not meet the price of $ 30.
Numerous reports on Amazon and Reddit list all sorts of problems with these cases. A Reddit post titled “Google’s Pixel 6 case is rubbish” has 500 votes in favor and contains several photos of what these official cases look like in a few months. Cases apparently quickly turn yellow or brown from UV degradation. This is a common problem with cheap transparent cases, but it’s not something you’d expect from a $ 30 official case from a major manufacturer.
Another problem that is constantly cited is that the cases do not fit properly, either directly from the factory or due to distortion over time. The images show uneven edges around the power and volume buttons.

Google has not yet responded to these complaints, but some Amazon customers have received a “one-time” refund. With the release of the Pixel 6a soon, it may be best to stay away from Google’s cases. Maybe we can get the company to return the beloved fabric cases from earlier Pixel phones.
