Model Kate Moss, who dated Johnny Depp from 1994 to 1998, testified briefly from Gloucester, England, on Wednesday morning during the sixth and final week of testimony in the controversial trial between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard. She denied Hurd’s previous testimony, citing a rumor that Depp once pushed Moss down the stairs on a trip to Jamaica.

“There was a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and injured my back. And I was screaming because I didn’t know what had happened to me and it hurt, “Moss said during his three-minute testimony. Depp “ran back to help me and took me to my room and sought medical help.”

“He never pushed, kicked or threw me down stairs,” she added.

Depp is suing Hurd for $ 50 million on charges of defamation in connection with a 2018 publication she published in The Washington Post calling herself a public figure representing domestic violence. Depp claims the article has damaged his career and denied allegations of abuse. Hurd sued Depp for $ 100 million after Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, made several statements in the media describing her allegations as untrue.

Depp, who sometimes wore tinted glasses, took up the position for the first time since late April and told the same story as Moss. “Miss. Hurd took the story and turned it into a very ugly incident, all in her mind,” he said. “There was never a time when I pushed Kate down the stairs.”

He then went on to deny much of the defense’s claim, claiming that Hurd had abused both him and her sister Whitney, whom he described as “Hurd’s punching bag or board”. He called his former business manager, Joel Mandel, against whom he had already filed a lawsuit in 2016, “a bitter man who ended up with a lot of money that I worked hard for over the years.” Finally, he said he had not seen any of Waldman’s statements until Hurd filed a counterclaim against him in August 2020, and said he did not know where they were published and said they looked like a “salad of words”.

Depp also challenged Hurd’s account of the brutal battle they waged in Australia in 2015, during which his fingertip was cut off. He dismissed Hurd’s claim that he had taken eight to 10 MDMA pills, saying: “I am absolutely sure I would be dead. I think a person will die, probably pretty soon. He also claims that Hurd threw a bottle of vodka at him, which broke and cut “short” from his finger. “I miss him,” he said with a smile. The defense alleges that he injured himself.

He also claims that Hurd gave him a “shine” during their honeymoon in 2015 on the Orient Express, and his lawyer showed the jury two photos that appear to have a black eye. (The defense claims he had a black eye before boarding the train.)

In the end, Depp described Hurd’s testimony as “horrible, ridiculous, humiliating, ridiculous, painful, wild, unimaginably brutal, cruel – and all false.” He added that he testified because “I don’t think anyone likes to open up and tell the truth, but there are times when you just have to do it because it’s out of control.”

During the cross-examination, Depp made vicious comments and often laughed, seemingly disappointed as Hurd’s lawyer, Ben Rothenborn, highlighted inconsistencies in his testimony – such as the fact that he had previously mentioned a phone in a bar in Australia but denied it existed. Wednesday. When introduced with a text message in which he wrote about women: “I need, I want, I take”, the actor suggested that Rothenborn “may have written it last night.”

Later in the day, the Hollywood news agency TMZ filed an urgent request – which Judge Penny Azkarate rejected – to prevent his former employee Morgan Tremain from testifying. The publication claims that the identity of a journalist’s source must be protected by Virginia law.

Tremaine has worked as a field manager for TMZ. He sent a film crew to the court in Los Angeles to take pictures of Hurd, “leaving the court and [of] alleged bruising on the right side of her face ”after filing a temporary remand order in May 2016.

He also received a video showing Depp banging cabinets and pouring a large glass of wine, which TMZ published and which the defense introduced as evidence in the process. Tremain testified that the video was edited as evidence from the original to remove the part in which Hurd grinned at Depp.

Although Tremaine said he did not know who sent the video to TMZ, he strongly suggested that it was Heard, explaining that the fastest way for a website to obtain copyright on a video is to obtain it directly from the person who made it. filmed and owned – and that they posted the video about 15 minutes after receiving it.

Tremaine admitted during cross-examination that he had watched part of the trial, which led Hurd’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft to ask, “That brings you your 15 minutes of fame, doesn’t it?”

“Actually, I’m kind of aiming for TMZ, a very controversial organization, and I’m not looking for any 15 minutes here,” Tremaine said. “Although you can speculate. I can say the same by taking Amber Heard as a client for you.

Jurors spent the rest of the day hearing expert testimony, including that of a psychologist called to refute a defense expert’s view that Hurd suffered post-traumatic stress caused by intimate partner violence; and a digital forensics expert called to suggest that photos of Hurd’s injuries may have been released through a photo editing program, although he could not say categorically that the photos had changed.

Testimony is due to end on Thursday, and closing remarks begin on Friday morning.
