The city of Sault Ste. Marie has launched its 2022 disposal program.
This year, city workers plan to dig about 12,000 meters of ditches again to improve drainage along municipal roads.
This is about 2.3 percent of the city’s 512,000-meter ditches.
This year’s work is expected to cost $ 205,069.
“Usually each year the program consists of requests from counselors, residents and staff,” said Susan Hamilton Beach, director of public affairs and engineering.
“Budget constraints allow a limited amount of work to be done each year. Requests need to be prioritized and usually not all requests can be met. “
“Prioritizing the list sees flood problems as a much higher priority than cosmetic problems.”
“Some of the excavation applications may not be included in the final list due to physical constraints (lack of class) in an area. The solution may require the installation of rainwater drainage to address drainage problems, “said Hamilton Beach.
