Why Only in America? Ted Cruz Leaves Texas School Shooting Interview

Senator Ted Cruz left in the middle of an interview after a Sky News reporter asked why mass school shootings appear to be happening “in America alone” during a vigil for the 21 people killed at Rob Elementary School.

Mark Stone, a U.S. foreign correspondent for the news agency, asked the Texas senator after a vigil attended by hundreds mourning the 19 children and two teachers killed Tuesday that now was the time to reform gun laws in the United States.

“You know, it’s easy to go into politics, you know,” said Mr Cruz, who is due to deliver a speech at the National Arms Association congress in Texas on Friday with the governor.

The reporter then responded to the senator’s attempt to repel him, stressing that gun control was “important. That is at the heart of the matter. “

Mr Cruz said that gun control was the place where the media liked to draw Americans’ attention after mass shootings and then deviated by talking about the man behind the killing – 18-year-old Salvador Ramos – and insisted massacres like the one on Tuesday, just a week after a separate mass shooting in Brooklyn that killed 10 people, were not due to gun laws in the country.

Saint-Ted Cruz has faced questions about gun control reform from a Sky News reporter following a shooting at a school in Texas in Uwalde that killed 21 people.

“The proposals of the Democrats and the media? Inevitably, when a cruel psychopath kills people … if you want to stop violent crime, the Democrats’ proposals? None of them would stop that, “Mr Cruz said.

The gunman barricaded himself in a classroom before killing fourth-graders and their two teachers at Rob Elementary School in Uwalde, and had no known criminal history or history of mental illness. He was shot by an officer on the spot about 60 minutes later.

The reporter then further irritated the senator by digging into why the country, which the senator claims is “the safest country on Earth,” suffered 288 school shootings between 2009 and 2018.

“Why only in America? Why is this American exclusivity so terrible? ”Mr. Stone asked.

“You know, I’m sorry you think American exclusivity is terrible. You have your political agenda. God bless you, “Mr. Cruz replied before walking away to avoid more questions from the reporter.

The Sky News team then followed the Texas MP and continued to ask questions in his direction, asking in particular why this type of mass shooting seems to be “happening only in America.”

As he and his team walked away from the on-site interview, Mr Cruz answered some of the reporters’ questions, calling the team “propagandists” and then concluding by defending his earlier claim that the United States was one of the most -safe in the world, saying: “Why do people come from all over the world to America? Because this is the freest, most prosperous and safest country on Earth.

The NRA’s annual congress is still scheduled to take place in Houston from Friday to Sunday, with guests expected from Texas Senator, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and former US President Donald Trump.

Just hours after Tuesday’s devastating massacre, Mr Cruz confirmed to reporters what he told a Sky News reporter on Wednesday during a vigil for slain students and teachers.

“Inevitably, when there is a murder of this kind, you see politicians trying to politicize it, you see Democrats and many people in the media whose immediate solution is to try to limit the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” he said on Tuesday. “It doesn’t work. It is not effective. That doesn’t stop crime. “
