Ottawa Storm: Hammond, Ont. devastated by the storm

The devastation of the storm in the village of Hammond, east of Ottawa, is widespread.

Homes were torn down by rubble and families displaced.

Repairs are not yet underway, as the focus remains on cleaning.

“What you see is essentially the roof that was lifted from the wooden yard and that was driven into the homes,” said Mario Zant, mayor of Clarence-Rockland.

Zant says the community must take control of the province to reach the area and see the devastation.

He says that although the damage is great, fortunately no serious injuries have been reported.

Neighbors with less damage are still waiting for power to be restored.

“Those in the damaged homes went to a family that was in the area,” Zant said. “We have a shelter that is open in Clarence Creek, which provides showers and the opportunity for people to recharge their devices.

Zant says he has repeatedly turned to Prime Minister Doug for help as the community seeks to recover from the devastation.
