Japanese technology giant Sony is preparing to increase production of its PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming console, along with expanding its gaming portfolio.
The message arrives when supply chain problems subside, GizmoChina reports.
Despite the launch of the PS5 console in November 2020, the technology giant is struggling with production due to continuing global chip shortages and other supply problems.
“We plan to significantly increase the production of consoles, which will lead us to production levels that we have never achieved before,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan.
The news comes despite the blockade of Covid-19 in China, but the executive said “things are definitely getting better.”
The brand also predicts that PS5 sales will reach 18 million units at the end of the financial year in March compared to 11.5 million units a year earlier.
The company also announced that half of its game releases will be on PC and mobile devices by 2025.
A chart shown during the presentation, the investor’s annual day, suggests that this will be a significant increase over its editions this year, when about a quarter of the company’s editions will be on PC and mobile, with the rest being divided between its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles
