Journalist asks Ted Cruz why massacres are an American problem (Photo: Sky News / AP)
Ted Cruz was embarrassed and ran away from an interview when a journalist confronted him and asked why mass shootings were an American problem.
The Republican senator was on vigil with Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, remembering those lost in the recent shooting at Rob Elementary School.
Cruz – who received $ 176,274 (£ 140,000) from the National Arms Association by 2019 – was then facing Sky News journalist Mark Stone.
He pushed Mr. Cruz into a corner and asked him if it was time for a change in gun laws in the United States.
Between 2009 and 2018, there were 288 school shootings in the United States – the next largest number was in Mexico, where there were eight.
Both Ted Cruz and Gov. Greg Abbott are staunch allies of the liberal gun laws in the United States, which Democrats say feed the problem of mass shootings in American schools.
They were not greeted with a frosty reception in Texas, in part because of the state’s traditional support for gun ownership, which is enshrined in the Second Amendment.
Asked by Mark Stone why American exclusivity was “so terrible,” Cruz said.

He told Sky News: “You know, I’m sorry you think American exclusivity is terrible. You have your political agenda. God loves you.
After Stone repeatedly told him, “You can’t answer that,” Cruz turned and said, “Why do people come from all over the world to America? Because this is the freest, most prosperous and safest country on Earth. Stop being a propagandist.
“You know, it’s easy to go into politics.
“Inevitably, when a cruel psychopath kills people, if you want to stop violent crimes, the Democrats’ proposals – none of them would stop that.”

“There are 19 groups of parents who will never be able to kiss their child tonight.”
The Texas senator then left the interview and left the scene.
Republicans like Governor Abbott do not see gun laws as a problem.
Instead, he blamed the massacre on the mental health of shooter Salvador Ramos.
In a later interview, Cruz reiterated this feeling when he spoke to CNN, saying: “Inevitably, when there is a killer of this kind, you see politicians trying to politicize him, you see Democrats and a lot of people in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. ”
