Depp is suing Hurd for $ 50 million for a 2018 Washington Post article in which she called herself a “public figure representing domestic violence,” claiming it caused him to lose his job. Hurd has filed a $ 100 million defamation lawsuit.
Camille Vazquez began presenting concluding arguments for Depp on Friday.
On May 27, 2016, Ms. Hurd entered the Los Angeles Courthouse to receive an ex-parte restraining order against Mr. Depp without notice and thus ruined his life by falsely telling the world that she has survived domestic violence by Mr Depp, ”Vazquez said. “Today, 27 May 2022, exactly six years later, we ask you to bring Mr Depp back to life by telling the world that Mr Depp is not the abuser. “
Lawyers Elaine Bredehoft and Ben Rothenborn are expected to give concluding arguments for Hurd.
Judge Penny Azkarate kicked off the day by instructing jurors on their deliberations.
“You should not base your sentence in any way on sympathy, prejudice or speculation,” Azcarate said. “Your verdict should be based solely on the evidence and instructions of the court. Your verdict should be based on the facts as you find them and the law you find in all those instructions.”
