A man in critical condition after an attack in Belfast

A 30-year-old man was arrested after an attack in Belfast on Friday night, which left a man in serious condition.

The 34-year-old victim suffered a serious head injury during a quarrel at Abingden Drive property around 9:45 p.m.

He has since been taken to hospital, with police describing his condition as critical.

Police are questioning the 30-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Forensic scientists have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Doherty said: “Shortly after 9:45 p.m., it was reported that a quarrel had broken out on a property in the area. After the incident, a 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and is currently in critical condition.

“The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is currently in police custody.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and the police will appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact them by calling 101, citing reference number 1997 27/05/22.
