Six drivers were called to see the stewards after the last training session for the Monaco Grand Prix, including Carlos Sainz from Ferrari.
Several blocking and obstructing moments were noted during the session, as a result of which a number of subpoenas were issued.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who finished third in FP3 and is one of the contenders for pole position, was called up for an alleged Aston Martin block on the Lance Stroll 20 minutes after the session.
The Spaniard escaped from sports punishment, but was fined 25,000 euros for blocking and received a reprimand (his third for the 2022 season).
“Approaching 17 and 18, the driver of car 55 [Sainz] received a series of extremely false messages on the radio about the gaps in the back of the car, “said the stewards.
“It is not clear to the stewards why such misleading information was given to the driver, who was left with the impression that there was no car directly behind him. Due to poor rear visibility in this part of the track, the driver relied entirely on the team’s messages.
“Notwithstanding the above, it was noted that the driver of car 55 almost stopped on the track. This is unacceptable and therefore the punishment of Condemnation is necessary. We note that such behavior of any pilot during training may involve much more severe penalties. “
The stewards noted a similar situation between Sainz and Sebastian Vettel later in the session, where Ferrari also gave Sainz false information.
“It is also noted that a similar situation arose in connection with the car accident 5 [Vettel] later in the session, “they said,” where once again the team passed the wrong information to the driver and again the driver of car 55 drove slower, which can be considered reasonable given the location and circumstances. “
Stroll himself was called for a separate incident, which, ironically, was to allegedly block Sainz just moments after the initial episode.
Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu was also called after an alleged blockade of Max Verstappen by Red Bull through the swimming pool complex. The Chinese driver received an official warning for the violation, and his team received a fine of 10,000 euros for failing to warn him of the approach of the Dutch athlete.
Sergio Perez from Red Bull, who was the fastest in FP3, also received a summons for alleged obstruction of George Russell, who complained about the incident on the radio of the Mercedes team.
On Friday, AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda received a reprimand for blocking Kevin Magnussen during FP2, which took him to his fourth reprimand of the season. The fifth rebuke would punish the network.
Separately, Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel was fined for speeding in boxing. The four-time world champion reached 61.6 km / h during the third practice. After the speed limit was 60 km / h, Vettel was fined 200 euros.
