WhatsApp will release a new version for iPad with Multi-device 2.0: Report

For a long time, iPad users have struggled to use WhatsApp on their devices due to the lack of a special application. Earlier this year, WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart mentioned that the platform already has technology that supports WhatsApp for iPad. There was speculation at the time that a special version of the app would be released for iPad users, but this did not happen. Now, the WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo assumes that WhatsApp for iPad will be released with Multi-device 2.0.

The publication shared a screenshot of WhatsApp for iPad via its Twitter, saying that “Multi-device 2.0 will allow people to connect an additional mobile phone or tablet (WhatsApp for iPad / Android tablet) with the same WhatsApp account in the future. As you can see in the screenshot, WhatsApp for iPad has a similar interface as WhatsApp for iPhone. In addition, since support for a special version of WhatsApp for iPad may come with Multi-device 2.0, more details on the next generation of multi-device use should be available soon.

“The core technology is there,” says the head of WhatsApp

Back in January, Cathcart explained that the basic technology needed to create a WhatsApp app for the iPad already existed. In an interview with The Verge, the head of WhatsApp said that the platform has worked hard on technology to support multiple devices. He also mentioned that WhatsApp web and desktop applications already support multiple devices. This technology would be very important for the application to work independently on the iPad.

In related news, WhatsApp will discontinue support for iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11. The instant messaging platform is doing so, as the newer features it launches may not work on iOS 10 and iOS 11 devices. The change will take place from 24 October 2022, as stated in the report. Those who use iPhone with iOS 12 and newer version will still be able to use WhatsApp with all the new features, including messaging reactions and more.

The change in the supported operating systems has been confirmed by WhatsApp, as the official frequently asked question mentions that iOS 12 is the recommended version of iOS for working with WhatsApp. Over time, instant messaging platforms tend to upgrade their software, which increases the resources needed for optimal performance. That’s why WhatsApp or any other messaging platform or application stops supporting older versions of operating systems.
