The Pembina Trails School (PTSD) confirmed to CTV News that a group of students found a body while cleaning the community at Ècole South Pointe.
Ted Fransen, head of post-traumatic stress disorder, confirmed that staff had sent a letter to parents about the incident.
The body was found by 7th and 8th graders on the west side of Tim Sale Drive and south of Waverley Street, according to the letter, outside the school property.
The letter said the students were immediately returned to school and police were called.
Winnipeg police said CTV News officials were investigating, but would not confirm what was being investigated.
The letter says that the most affected students and staff met with the school social worker and school psychologist and were given a place to talk about what happened.
A crisis response team will also go to the school on Monday.
Fransen said the school ward would not comment further, as it was an active police investigation.
