A school in Winnipeg has recruited a crisis response team after a group of students found a dead body while carrying out a public clean-up on Friday.
The school department of Pembina Trails confirmed that a group of 7th and 8th graders made the discovery while cleaning a field in the southwestern part of the city.
The department said the teachers immediately returned the children to school and called police.
The school ward said the body was not found on the school property.
Winnipeg police confirmed that officers were at the scene on Friday, but did not specify the nature of their investigation.
“Police confirmed that what the children saw was a dead body. The police are completing their investigation, “said a letter sent to the parents, provided to Global News by the school unit.
“Our school social worker and school psychologist were at school today and met with the children and staff who were most affected.
“They gave students a place to talk about what they saw and how they felt.”
The department told parents that its crisis response team will return to the school on Monday. (Global Winnipeg)
