Acid “thrown on a person” during an attack in Newry

A man was reportedly thrown at him with acid in an attack on Newry in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police said the victim was attacked by a number of people in the area of ​​the city’s chancellor at around 2.50 am, and acid was thrown at him during the fight.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, which include a broken arm and burns.

Detective Sergeant Best of PSNI said they were investigating the possibility that a Volkswagen car was linked to the accident.

He was later found burned on the road to Fort Hill.

Local Sinn Fein councilor Roazin Mulgrew said it was a horrific attack.

“While details of the incident are still emerging, what is known is shocking the community,” she said.

“This type of attack can kill or disfigure a person forever, and anyone who commits such an act must be captured and removed from our streets.

PSNI called on anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
