Former UDA assassin Michael Stone was spotted in Stormont – where he had previously been stopped by a murderous attack on Sinn Fein leaders – during NI’s centenary celebrations.
The killer from Milltown Cemetery, who spent 27 years behind bars for six sectarian killings here, was one of about 100,000 spectators at Saturday’s parade of the century.
Stone heard the Grand Secretary of the Orange Order, Rev. Mervyn Gibson, call for unity within the union as he struck US President Joe Biden and US Congressman Richard Neal in his speech.
The senior orange suggested that a “compromise” might be needed.
“We do not live in the world we would like it to be. We live in a world in today’s reality, with its challenges for this generation, “he said.
There was a standing ovation and applause as he defended Northern Ireland’s place in the United Kingdom.
In 2006, Stormont security guard Sue Porter held a handgun – later imitation – pressed to his head as he prevented Stone from entering the Houses of Parliament.
