Gov. Abbott throws himself at Texas school shooting memorial

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was annoyed by the mourners on Sunday during a visit to a school in Texas that killed 19 children and two teachers.

“Abbott is the son of ab-h,” said Araceli Villalpando, 59, of Fort Worth.

“It’s awful – he’s not doing anything about gun laws and he wants everyone to own a gun,” she said. “A lot of people like guns, and that’s good, but how can you sell a military rifle to the public?”

Salvador Ramos, 18, entered Rob School in Uwalde, Texas, on Tuesday, carrying an AR-15-style assault rifle and killing 19 fourth-graders and two teachers.

Villalpando said US gun laws must be changed now and that politicians cannot “play for months and years.”

Abbott, a Republican, visited the school’s makeshift memorial outside, while President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also paid their respects there.

The tragedy is complicated by the fact that police waited 90 minutes after being called to the school to enter the school – although children called 911, asking for help when shots were heard.

The police chief of Uvaldo’s consolidated independent school district, Peter Aredondo, has come under fire from all sides for dealing with the bloody disaster.

“I am very angry with Pete Aredondo. If the police had acted more quickly, not so many children would have been taken, “Riva Ortiz, a resident of Uwalde, told the school on Sunday.

Ortiz, 53, whose children and grandchildren attended Rob Elementary School, said her 6-year-old granddaughter would not attend school as planned next year because the family could not trust the district police to guard the students. safety.

“If they couldn’t save these children, why should I rely on them to protect my granddaughter?” She said. “I don’t know what we’re going to do. [granddaughter] Scarlett, home school, maybe. ”

Diane Martinez, 48, said the most “devastating part” was police officers waiting outside the classroom instead of going “inside to help the children.”
