Gurman: iOS 16 will include an always-on display feature in front of the iPhone 14 Pro

In his latest issue of Power On, Mark Gourmet of Bloomberg says iOS 16 may finally include an always-on display feature for future iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. With rumors that it will arrive with the iPhone 13 Pro, it seems that Apple’s next flagship phone may include this long-awaited feature.

Gourmet writes in his bulletin:

“I was told that iOS 16 would include support for always-on lock-up in the future, something Apple originally planned for last year’s iPhone 13. This will allow the iPhone to significantly reduce the frame rate of the lock screen and be able to display information quickly. – Like Apple’s newer watches.

The journalist says he was told that “the always-on display mode is exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max (…) if the feature is ever affected.

To bring some context, in December 2020, a report states that mode can always be turned on thanks to the LTPO display.

“Apple plans to apply LTPO TFT to higher-end iPhone models starting next year. So far, he has used the low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) TFT process. An oxide TFT process will be added to make the LPTO TFT. “

LTPO panels allow variable refresh rate. Reducing the refresh rate to an extremely low speed means that it uses much less power, which allows the Apple Watch Series 5 display to be constantly on.

With the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple has finally added a 120Hz refresh rate panel, but it varies between 10Hz and 120Hz, unlike the Apple Watch, which can also update the refresh rate once every minute.

The always-on display feature would also be a nice addition to the iPhone 14 Pro line, as a redesign with a new hole cutout + pill is expected to replace the slot.

In addition to the always-on display feature, the iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to have an A16 Bionic chip and a 48-megapixel rear camera.
