The fire started deliberately, investigators say

A spokeswoman for the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said investigators had concluded that the fire had started on purpose.

A joint investigation by Derbyshire police and a fire into the cause of the McLean Street building ended last night, finding that the fire started on purpose.

Firefighters were called at 8:52 p.m. Saturday night with initial information that the fire was at the former Pennine Hotel. The fire was located on the 7th level of Laurie House, a former nightclub and office building.

Fire crews from Kingsway Community, Nottingham Road, Alfreton Community Fire Station, Long Eaton, Ripley Fire Station, Ilkeston Community Fire Station and Chesterfield Community Fire Station, with the support of Stapleford Fire Station, were present at the scene using two air stairwells. and a command support unit to support the firefighting operations, which lasted until the end of the night.

As firefighters dealt with the blaze, 999 emergency room operators processed multiple calls while managing and mobilizing emergency resources at the scene.
