Al Horford after the match
Al Horford discusses his feelings after Boston’s 7-game victory over Miami.
Al Horford is in the finals after playing more post-season games before getting there than anyone in NBA history.
The Celtics Veterans Center recorded 141 playoff games without advancing in the conference finals, a league record finally broken after Boston’s 7-game win over Miami on Sunday.
When the last buzzer sounded, Horford was immediately seized by the long-awaited moment. The 15-year-old veteran collapsed on the floor and screamed repeatedly, hitting the hardwood before standing up to be hugged by Celtics teammates and staff.

The five-time All-Star has missed the playoffs only twice since being selected for Atlanta’s third overall in 2007, but has been less than a series with the Hawks (once) and the Celtics (twice) in their deepest. series after the season.
“It was a great trip,” Horford admitted. “Many battles. Apparently I never got it [until now]but a lot of great teammates along the way. ”
Boston regained Horford through trading last offseason and the 35-year-old’s defense, size and leadership proved to be exactly what the franchise needed to return to the finals for the first time since 2010.
“When he returned, it gave us a sense of security,” said Celtics guard Marcus Smart. “He is selfless. Al wasn’t interested in numbers. He takes care of the victories and his team. “
“No one deserves it more than this man on my right,” added Celtics striker Ceylan Brown. “I’m proud to share this moment with a veteran, a mentor, a brother, a man like Al Horford, man.”
In addition to eliminating his own series without finals, Horford became the first player to represent the Dominican Republic in the finals, a fact he enthusiastically celebrated as he wavered between Spanish and English when asked about the achievement.
“We’re here in Miami, really close to the DR,” Horford said. “I know my family is happy. Everyone is happy, everyone is watching. The country was watching, I know everyone was there. They sent me pictures. They were ready for it. We enjoy this one. ”
