Is a pet good?
While I’m not advocating for pet owners to avoid feeding Rex or Mustache by hand, there are times when automatic pet feeders are very helpful. Petlibro Granary’s WiFi feeder, one of the newest options on the market, means you can maintain the strict diet you’ve set for your furry friend while working from home, even when you return to the office. It is also ideal if you are leaving for the weekend and prefer not to burden your neighbor with the obligation to fill cups.
You can make a recording so that your voice announces each meal
With a sleek look reminiscent of an espresso machine, this upright feeder – Petlibro’s second-generation model – consists of a box fixed to a bowl. Needless to say, it is more elegant than the Kenl-Mastr, supposedly the first mechanized pet feeder to be invented in 1939 and stored at Bloomingdale’s. A New Yorker shopping article describes it as “a covered dog food plate that opens its lid during a meal if you don’t forget to set an alarm timer.”
Petlibro Wifi Feeder, $ 89.99 (version without Wi-Fi from $ 65.99)
The Petlibro model does more than just open the lid. Once you have loaded the box of pellets – work with dry food – the fun begins. Everything is planned through machine buttons (which can be a little picky) or through an app that is great for fixing on the go. (There’s also a cheaper version without Wi-Fi.) And you can make an audio recording so that your voice announces each meal.
The spare battery will turn on if there is a power outage, the food tray can be thrown into the dishwasher, and the parts are pleasantly strong, with a stainless steel bowl that can’t be easily overturned by a wayward paw. Most importantly, there are security levels similar to Fort Knox. Swivel lid and special sealing tape do not allow moisture and chopping to be fresh for two odd weeks, which is approximately as long as the five-liter stock will last anyway (you get a notification from the app when stocks are low). But please don’t leave your magic alone for so long. Petlibro Granary WiFi Feeder $ 89.99 (non-WiFi version from $ 65.99), petlibro.com
Fitbit for Fido
Invoxia smart dog collar, £ 99 plus £ 12.99 monthly subscription
Does Fido like Fitbit? This is essentially this smart collar. It uses non-invasive radar sensors to monitor vital factors such as respiratory and heart rate, plus sleep patterns and quality. Pet owners may want to know such things, given that 10-20% of dogs are at risk or already suffering from heart disease. Like many competitors, Invoxia has GPS tracking, but few other collars can monitor biometric statistics because it usually requires close contact with the skin and the fur interferes. The collar works through an application, but there is one basic caveat: it is only for medium and large dogs. Available in the US, UK and Europe from September. Automatic for human cats
Smarty Pear Leo’s Loo too, $ 599.99
It looks like a chic retro washing machine, but this invention may be the best automated stretcher for kittens you can buy. Once your cat is done, the machine rotates quietly, moving the contents into an odor-resistant drawer, and sterilizes with UV light that kills bacteria. (Fear not: the weight sensors ensure that the drum will not hum until the cat comes out.) When the drawer is full – in about a week – you will receive a notification from an app to remove it. But don’t leave it that long unless it’s absolutely necessary, hey? The app also keeps you in your cat’s business by tracking her weight and activity in the bathroom to help you monitor her health. It’s alive, it’s alive …
Trixie fish, £ 9.99
If your cat is not content to chase a ball, the German brand Trixie makes interactive plush toys that provide pets with fun levels similar to Netflix. Its classic animated model is battery-powered, an active mouse that moves on the floor, changes direction if it bumps into something, and stops when pressed – before restarting after a second touch so Whiskers don’t calm down. A newer option is a fish that twists unevenly when touched; it will stop automatically after 15 seconds before starting another round of flops. Make a cheerful cat without the need for bloodshed. Snoop dogs
Eufy Pet Dog Camera D605, $ 199.99
This new Eufy dog camera – currently available in the US and Japan – is a remarkable puppy caregiver. (Available on the market for dogs, but would work for cats as well.) Operating with an app, it provides live streaming with 1080p clarity and has a 170-degree wide-angle lens, zoom function and infrared night vision. A motion sensor tracks your dog and the camera rotates to keep it in the center of the frame. Meanwhile, the interactive features bring fun: you can call Fido thanks to the built-in speakers and, best of all, use the treat toss treats to throw delicious bites at three different distances.
