The boy and his mother were in a vehicle in block 100 on Fourth Avenue when the shooting happened around 2:44 p.m. on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety said.
Authorities have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of “murder and conspiracy to participate”, according to a statement from the department.
The child has been identified as De’Avri Thomas, authorities said.
“When first aid arrived, they found the child with a gunshot wound in a vehicle,” the department said.
“The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.”
