The approach of Prince Harry and Megan Markle to their post-royal lifestyle is the reason they have been criticized by the British, said a PR expert, adding that on the other hand, Prince Charles’ television appearance is a stark contrast.
I’m talking to The Daily StarPR major Lucy Hood explained why Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have the right to appear on television without gathering negative press, but the same cannot be said for Harry and Megan.
“Take off the cuff immediately … I think it’s related to the programs. Both Eastenders and Coronation Street are highly respected British institutions, not US-based Netflix, they feel like warm comfortable blankets, ”she explained.
Prince Charles also appeared earlier in a 2000 episode on Coronation Street.
Hood continued, “People actually live and breathe these soaps, and they don’t see the characters as actors, but as people.”
She then explained why Harry and Megan looked “crazy about the glory” of the British people, saying: “They see Charles’ motivation as completely different from Megan and Harry.”
“They think Megan is insincere because she was primarily an American actress and has a lot of fun with celebrities, and I don’t think the British are too comfortable with that,” she added.
“We like our royal members to be royalty with all the pomp, ceremony and tradition that comes with it. If they want to get closer to us by visiting one of our favorite British TV soaps, then this is great. That’s how I think society thinks … honestly, “Hood concluded.
