Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford’s rally in London, Ont. on Sunday afternoon he was briefly interrupted by protesters.
Ford was beginning to comment at the Lamplighter Inn when a man took the stage and was heard saying to the PC leader, “Mr. Ford, you are privatizing our healthcare. You have to be honest with Ontario. ”
He was immediately taken out of the building by security and was booed by those present.
The man was later identified as Jeffrey Hanks. He is co-chair of the London Health Coalition (LHC). The group staged a protest in front of the site, holding signs reading “Do not privatize our public health.”
Hanks told CTV News London that he stormed the scene and opposed Ford because he wanted people to know about Ford’s privatization plans.
“It was pretty scary, but, you know, I’m fine,” Hanks said from the parking lot after the rally.
“I hope that more people know that they are privatizing our healthcare, and they should vote accordingly.
Another man, Umberto Ponce De Leon, later took the stage after Hanks, but was also quickly snatched by security. He told CTV News London that four more years of Ford would put the province’s healthcare system in a “serious, difficult situation”.
“I think I have the right to inform people before they vote that Doug Ford is really a scam,” he said. “The Conservatives are destroying this province and this country at the expense of the most vulnerable.
“We need change,” he added.
Shortly afterwards, Ford continued his speeches, advertising his party’s plan if re-elected.
Election day is June 2.
