MONTREAL – More than 27,000 homes in Ontario and Quebec are without electricity, a week after strong winds and a thunderstorm swept through the two provinces.
At least 11 people have been killed in and after last Saturday’s storm as gusts of up to 151km / h severely damaged power lines and other infrastructure.
In Ontario, Hydro One reported that more than 12,623 were without electricity on Sunday, mostly in the eastern part of the province.
Hydro Ottawa says 9,900 customers are still without electricity.
Hydro-Quebec, meanwhile, says there are just over 5,000 without electricity in the province, mainly in the Laurentians area of Quebec, Outaouais and Lanaudiere.
Environment Canada said bad weather last weekend included dereho – a rare widespread storm linked to a series of thunderstorms – that developed near Sarnia, Ont., And moved northeast through the province, ending in Quebec City.
