Aaron Donald wants a new contract.
The Los Angeles Rams’ defensive game has spent most of his career as perhaps the best footballer. His current deal does not pay him as such. Armed with a Super Bowl ring and all the personal accolades an NFL defender can achieve, Donald says it’s a good idea to retire at 31 if he and Rams don’t agree.
He started the conversation before the Super Bowl and doubled on Monday in the podcast “I’m an Athlete” with retired NFL players Brandon Marshall and Pacman Jones. According to a transcript of ProFootball Talk, Donald repeated four times during his appearance that he was “calm” with his NFL career. But it seems like it’s a game to keep playing as long as the money is right.
“It’s not about the money,” Donald told PFT, before mentioning “business” many times. “But it’s a business at the end of the day. This is what you need to see.
“It’s a victory for me. I don’t want to play football if I can’t win anyway, so I have a feeling that if I have a real chance to win another Super Bowl, then it makes sense to play. But again, this is still a business. We have to deal with the business side of things, and if that’s not the case, then, you know, that’s the situation. I’ll be fine nonetheless. “
So it seems to be a victory for Donald. And business. Which all makes sense.

Where is Donald’s contractual status
Donald has three years left for the six-year, $ 135 million deal he signed in 2018, and has since surpassed it as the market moves in his favor. He also has significant leverage, as he could certainly afford to retire without any worries.
While it may be a negotiation tactic, the fact that he may call it a waiver comes with a Super Bowl ring, seven All-Pro nods, three Defender of the Year trophies and a first-round ticket to the Professional Football Hall of Fame. his pocket is convincing. His $ 97 million in football career income certainly helps the case.

But he would certainly like to earn more, which in this case probably means exceeding the $ 28 million that TJ Watt has to make annually as the highest paid defender in football. Racing for another Super Bowl would sweeten the deal.
But if that doesn’t happen, Donald will be fine. Just ask him.
“I don’t have to play football to be good,” Donald continued. “I am fine. I was blessed to play this game, to make the money I made. The achievements I have made in eight years are like – I am finished. If I can win another one, that’s great. But if not, I’m calm. “
