Fire in Torquay as locals told to ‘keep windows closed’ – updates

Multiple fire crews are battling a fire at a thatched property in Torquay. The fire was reported a little before 4.30pm today (Tuesday, May 31).

Though 12 fire engines are currently attending the scene, a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said the crews are ‘in the early stages’ of extinguishing the fire.

The spokesperson said: “Detached, thatched property. 12 engines, two hoses are working to put in out. Called to the scene at 16.21. Everyone is thought to be out the building at this point but in the early stages of putting it out”.
