Kitchener shooting: Police are looking for a suspect

Waterloo Regional Police are still searching for a suspect in Sunday’s shooting on Gildner Street in Kitchener.

In a press release, police said officers responded in the Park Street and Glasgow Street area for reports of shots fired around 9:30 a.m.

They believe the shooting was a deliberate incident.

“We believe that the suspect had a quarrel with a potential person and as a result a firearm was fired,” said Const. Andre Johnson told CTV News.

Police could not confirm how many shots were fired, but said no one was injured.

They are also looking for a vehicle that may be involved.

“We’re mostly looking for Toyota, which is silver / gray in color,” Const said. Johnson.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

RESIDENTS REACT

People living on Guildner Street said the shooting incident made them feel uneasy.

Kelly Shea thought the sound of the shot was just fireworks.

“It was much stronger,” he said. “Then the police were here in no time, so then we realized they were bullets.”

Shea told CTV News that the shots hit the wall of his home.

“He can come in my window, in the living room where I was sitting,” he said. “So it’s very annoying.”

Another Gildner Street resident who did not want to be named felt the same way as Shea.

“It’s shocking to hear about street shootings,” he said Sunday, adding that he had lived in the neighborhood for 13 years. “We haven’t heard anything like this before.”

Rick Zitzelberger, who also lives on Gildner Street, said he saw a “suspicious” man Sunday morning.

“He was wearing a full camouflage mask and all you saw were two small eyes. I went to get my phone so I could get his book, he got in his car and got down here, went through that stop sign and kept going. “
