Putin will use the EU’s oil divide, Zelensky warns world

Ukraine has warned European Union leaders that President Putin would see their inability to agree on a total ban on Russian oil imports as a sign of weakness.

Efforts to impose energy sanctions have failed again in Brussels amid disagreements over the economic impact on countries dependent on Russian fossil fuels.

President Zelensky has taken on the bloc’s task because of the split, which he says will encourage Putin in his efforts to conquer Ukraine. “Europe needs to show strength, because Russia sees power only as an argument,” he told the group via video link. “All quarrels in Europe must end, internal disputes that only encourage Russia to put more pressure on you.

He added: “Ukraine stopped the Russian army and everyone was afraid of that, remember? Greater unity
