Maybe Star Wars has learned something or two from its past failures to protect its actors from racism, because this time the franchise is stepping up its defense with Obi-Wan himself. Shortly after Moses Ingram went public with some of the vile messages she had received from toxic Obi-Wan Kenobi fans, Ewan McGregor shared a video condemning the hatred.

The video, posted on official Star Wars Twitter, begins with McGregor thanking audiences for making Obi-Wan “the most-watched premiere of an original Disney + series of all time.” He then quickly switched to the issue: “However, it seems that some of the fans from this influential fan base have decided to attack Moses Ingram online and send her the most horrible, racist DM. And I heard some of them this morning, and it just broke my heart.

He continued: “Moses is a brilliant actor, she is a brilliant woman and she is absolutely amazing in this series. She brings so much to the show, she brings so much to the franchise. And I just felt bad to hear that it happened. “

“I just wanted to say, as the show’s lead actor and executive producer, that we’re with Moses, we love Moses,” McGregor said unequivocally. “And if you send her messages of harassment, I don’t think you’re a Star Wars fan. There is no room for racism in this world. And I fully support Moses. “

If anyone’s words can carry weight among racist fans, it will be a Star Wars veteran like McGregor (although breaking through this hateful fog is a difficult task for anyone, even a famous Jedi). However, colleague from the star Kumail Nanjiani also expressed his support, tweeting: “Moses Ingram is a phenomenal man and actor and I am excited by the decades of incredible work she has to do. May the trolls understand the message loud and clear.
