Jada Pinkett Smith finally talks about Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars

Coming out of the 2022 Oscars, the most discussed moment was not one of the real winners of the ceremony, but a quarrel that took place on stage. After Chris Rock joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald appearance as a result of her alopecia, her husband, Will Smith, slapped the comedian. A little over two months later, Jada Pinkett Smith finally talked about what happened between the two men.

The latest episode of Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk series focuses on people who deal with alopecia, and the actress opened “Alopecia: The Devastating Impact” with the words below, which also refer to the meeting of Will Smith and Chris Rock on Oscars:

This is a really important conversation at the Red Table for alopecia. Given what I went through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands turned to me with their stories. I use this moment to give our family with alopecia the opportunity to talk about what it is like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is. As for the night of the Oscars, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men will have the opportunity to heal, talk about it and reconcile. The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all really need each other more than ever. Until then, Will and I continue to do what we’ve been doing for the last 28 years, and that’s to come up with this thing called living together. Thank you for listening.

This part of the Oscars drama took place when Chris Rock came out to present the Best Documentary category, and among the jokes he told was to tell Jada Pinkett Smith that he can’t wait to see her in GI Jane 2 , i.e. comparing her bald look to how Demi Moore appeared in GI Jane in 1997. Will Smith was seen in front of the camera laughing while Jada Pinkett Smith just rolled his eyes, but just seconds later Will came on stage, hit Rock, he returned to his seat and told the SNL alumni to keep his wife’s name from “his fucking mouth.” Months later, Jada Pinkett Smith only wants her husband and Rock to patch things up instead of separating. She also pointed out that as far as she and Will Smith were concerned, the incident did not stop them from coping with life’s challenges.

Although Jada Pinkett Smith’s statement came months after the slap, the incident certainly did not leave public conversation quickly. A day later, Will Smith issued an official apology to Chris Rock, but it has since been reported that the former has not personally contacted the latter. Will Smith then resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on April 1, and a week later the organization banned the actor Men in Black from attending the Academy Awards and any other Academy-related event for the next 10 years. Many celebrities also commented on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, including Seth Myers, who mentioned him at the NBCUniversal Upfront presentation, and Steve Harvey, who discussed the incident while speaking at Atlanta Law School.

Now that Jada Pinkett Smith has answered Will Smith, who hit Chris Rock, we’ll have to wait and see if her wish for them to reconcile comes true. If this happens and becomes public, CinemaBlend will broadcast this news. Until then, you can review our release schedule for 2022 to find out what movies to watch later this year.
