Russian oil producers remain one step ahead of sanctions

Europe has just turned to Russian crude oil with its toughest sanctions so far, but shippers and refineries are making oil on the market by concealing its origins. Some fuels believed to be partly produced by Russian crude oil landed in New York and New Jersey last month.

The cargo was brought across the Suez Canal and the Atlantic by Indian refineries, which were major buyers of Russian oil, according to ship records, Refinitiv data and analysis by the Helsinki-based think tank Center for Energy and Clean Air Research.
