Google combines two of its video calling applications into one.
In a blog post, the company announced that it would transfer all features from Google Meet to Duo “for one integrated video solution”.
The duo is designed to make personal video calls and includes family mode and effects such as scribbles and masks. Google Meet, which was available to everyone in 2020, includes live captions, automatic light corrections and noise reduction.
The company will rename the Duo to Google Meet later this year.
Engadget announces that the current Meet application will be renamed Meet Original. According to The Verge, Google will deny the latter.
Yes, all this does not sound very clear, but according to Google, this is the way.
“The Duo mobile app was very complex, especially under the hood,” Dave Citron, Google’s video product director, told The Verge. “Especially in emerging markets, where network connectivity was sparse or highly variable.”
Google will begin rolling out several Meet features to the Duo mobile app this month, including custom virtual backgrounds, meeting scheduling, and meeting chat.
