Queen will miss the platinum anniversary event on Friday

Buckingham Palace says Queen Elizabeth will not attend a church service to celebrate her platinum anniversary after experiencing “discomfort” at Thursday’s events.

The palace says that with “great reluctance” the 96-year-old monarch has decided to miss Friday’s service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The palace says the queen “enjoyed a lot” of today’s birthday parade and the flight of the Royal Air Force, but “experienced some inconvenience”.

Britain marks the 1970s on the monarch’s throne with four-day events.
