Oats, corgis and devoted royal fans are already lining the streets in anticipation of today’s events, with many camping overnight to get a first-class venue outside Buckingham Palace.
Here are the details of the official platinum anniversary celebrations taking place today.
Color parade team: 10 in the morning
The Queen will receive a greeting from the balcony of Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Color this year. More than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will gather at the traditional parade to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday. They will continue down the mall to the Horse Guards Parade, which will be joined by members of the royal family on horseback and in carriages.
RAF overflight: 11.45 to 13.15
The event will end with an RAF flight watched by members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Illumination of the lighthouses: 9.25 pm
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the UK’s long tradition of celebrating royal anniversaries, weddings and lighthouse coronations will also take place today.
After Trooping the Color, the Queen will return to Windsor for an evening ceremony, during which she will symbolically light the main jubilee lighthouse as part of a double ceremony with her grandson, the Duke of Cambridge.
The lighthouses will also be lit for the first time in each of the capitals of the British Commonwealth.
