Calgary Flames coach Daryl Suther has been named Jack Adams Award winner

NEW YORK – Daryl Sutter of Calgary Flames won the Jack Adams Award for Coach of the Year in the NHL.

The league announced the honor on Thursday night before Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between Colorado Avelanche and the Edmonton Oilers.

Interim Florida Panthers coach Andrew Brunet and New York Rangers’ Gerard Galant were the other finalists. Brunette finished second in the vote of the members of the NHL Broadcasting Association.

The 63-year-old Sutter coaches the Flames in the Pacific Division Championship with the sixth most points in the league. Calgary reached the second round of the playoffs before losing a series to rivals Alberta Oilers.

This is the first Jack Adams for Sutter in 20 seasons as an NHL head coach. He coached the Los Angeles Kings in the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup Championships.
