Microsoft announces Surface Laptop Go 2

Microsoft has upgraded its budget Surface Laptop Go to the second generation. Surface Laptop Go 2 now comes with an improved processor and a slightly higher price.

Some call it boring and others call it clean, but the Surface Laptop Go 2 misses all the elegant stickers and provides an earthy shell design. Like the generation before it, the Surface Laptop Go 2 is still made with premium materials – aluminum, polycarbonate composite resin and recycled content after the user – and is as hard as stone, according to Microsoft. And with a compact 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen display and weighing just 1.13 kilograms, it’s a great device for travel performance.

While the Surface Laptop Go 2 continues the minimalist tradition, it still comes with a USB-C port, a USB-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack (wow) and a Surface Connect port. For users who need HDMI and other major ports, Microsoft offers the Surface Dock, which connects to the Surface port. If the high price of the docking station is not attractive, then there are many USB-C keys.

The big upgrade in this generation is the processor. The Surface Laptop Go 2 now uses an 11th-generation Intel Core i5-1135G7 mobile processor, replacing the 10th-generation Intel Core i5-1035G1 from the previous generation. In addition to using the faster Willow Cove core architecture, the 11th-generation processor also comes with newer Intel Iris Xe graphics. Designed as an everyday device, the Surface Laptop Go 2 will not yet appear in triple A games, but its improved hardware will run a little smoother with Minecraft.

Another notable change is that Microsoft has finally increased the base memory from the anemic 64GB eMMC of the previous generation to 128GB SSD. This is an absolutely welcome change. It’s 2022 and 64GB just doesn’t do it for anything anymore. In terms of memory, the user version reaches a maximum of 8 GB of LPDDR4 memory. However, corporate customers can increase this to 16GB.

For security reasons, the Surface Laptop Go 2 boasts enterprise-class protection, Windows Hello login, one-touch login with a fingerprint power button, and a discrete hardware TPM for the commercial version.

Supports remote operation 720p webcam and two excellent studio microphones for long field. Microsoft also cites a battery life of 13.5 hours on a single charge. It is stated that the device can charge up to 80 percent of battery capacity in about an hour.

Consumer versions of the laptop come with Windows 11 Home. Commercial devices have the option of Windows 11 Pro or Windows 10 Pro.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 will be available on June 7 in the Microsoft Store at a price of C $ 740, C $ 50 more than the starting price of the previous generation. The higher starting price is justified by faster and more spacious storage, as well as increased productivity.
