Prince William and Kate Middleton smiled at Queen Elizabeth II’s National Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on Friday.
The ceremony is just one of several events taking place this weekend as part of Her Majesty’s ongoing platinum anniversary, which began on Thursday afternoon.
The 40-year-old Middleton was dressed in a pastel yellow dress, while the 39-year-old William looked elegant in a conservative gray suit, showing off his service medals.
The Thanksgiving Service recognizes the Queen’s position as spiritual leader and head of the Church of England.
Unfortunately, the queen herself was absent after feeling “discomfort” during Thursday’s anniversary celebrations.
“The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s birthday parade and Flypast, but experienced some discomfort,” a spokesman for the royal family said in a statement Thursday.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked elegant during the ceremony.
“Given the travel and activities required to participate in tomorrow’s National Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty was reluctant to attend.”
The statement concluded: “The Queen is looking forward to participating [Thursday night’s] A lighthouse event at Windsor Castle and I would like to thank everyone who made such a memorable occasion today. ”
Both Prince Andrew and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby – who had to speak – were also forced to miss the event after being tested positive for COVID-19.
