A growing number of monkeypox cases in Canada

The number of cases of monkeypox in Canada has risen to 77.

Seventy-one of these cases are in Quebec, five in Ontario and one in Alberta.

The Public Health Agency of Canada updated the number of cases on Friday night.

Canada confirmed its first two cases of monkeypox on May 19.

During a briefing on Friday, Chief Public Health Officer Dr Teresa Tam told reporters that the virus is not exclusively associated with any group or environment: “Everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, can become infected and to spread the virus if he comes into close contact, including intimate sexual contact with an infected person or a contaminated object. “

PHAC continues to collect and analyze epidemiological information reported by provinces and territories to help define the national scope of the investigation.

As the investigation progresses, the agency says additional cases are expected to be reported in the country.
