Davidstowe’s Illegal Rave: “Thousands Travel Across the UK”

Thousands flocked to rural Cornwall for a rave. Police cordoned off the area around the illegal gathering site in Davidstowe Moore, near Camelford.

Loud booming music could be heard for miles around 10pm yesterday (June 3rd), with the rave showing no signs of stopping at 9am today. Residents nearby complain that the music not only woke them up, but also got stronger as they progressed in the morning.

Delabole photographer Adrian Jasper said he had never seen an A39 full of so many cars. He said hundreds of cars lined the roads on all sides at the rave site, which remains cordoned off by police.

“There are cars everywhere,” he said. “Every road and every corner is clogged with cars. I spoke to several of them, they said they had reached as far as Scotland and Oxfordshire. A man getting out of his car said he had driven 400 miles and could not get in. There are cars, tents, people camping, people sitting in their cars drinking, boots loaded with camping equipment. I’ve never seen anything like it. Police stopped people from entering, and officers were apparently attracted to Plymouth.

Mr Jasper said a raver told him he had found the location by calling a secret phone number. “I have to say that they have not shown disrespect,” Mr Jasper added. “They’re cheerful and happy, they seem to be out and having fun, I understand that.”

Photos from the rave site itself show a large group still partying during the day. Loud electronic music still sounds from event-sized speakers.

Above the speakers is a figure of a pirate with a skull and bones, while behind the main dancing crowd are several smaller ones, some of which cluster around fires. Then there are dozens of tents set up with cars parked on the ground.

Locals say the event has attracted thousands, with many others unable to enter the site while police surround it. The sleepless residents of Camelford and Delabole called on the forces to intervene, while others called for caution.

Delabole resident Kate O’Kurney said that around 7.45 am the music became louder again and she can still hear it a few miles away in her hometown. She said: “I sleep lightly, so I listened to him all night. In fact, it’s stronger now than it was at midnight. I’m not a killer joy and I love seeing people have fun. My only concern is that there are 100 sheep and horses up there. They must have been very traumatized. “Another Bocasle resident said that loud music also kept them awake.”

However, others said it would be unwise to force the ravers to leave, noting that many would be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and could not leave in any way other than driving. Some simply defended the ravers’ right to party.

Commenting on a post by Devon and Cornwall police, Facebook user Nathan Giles said: “A bunch of snowflakes on this page! I was locked up and told what to do for the last two years and now people are out and enjoying a weekend that everyone wants to wall for.

I would understand if it was every night of the week, but this is a one-time occasion to celebrate the Queen’s anniversary in our own way, don’t worry, we’ll all go home by Sunday or Monday, and if the police don’t do it, remove us by force, usually leave every place as we find it, making sure all the rubbish is cleared. “

At around 4 am, a police spokesman said: “We are concerned about both the people present and the impact on the local community. We are currently at the scene, working with members of the public to close the event.

“Currently, local roads are blocked and there is limited access for emergency vehicles to be present if necessary. In the interest of public safety, we ask anyone who intends to attend the event not to do so. Especially considering that it will be closed soon. We also closed the local roads in the area until further notice. “

A police spokesman confirmed to CornwallLive at 6.30am that the rave was still ongoing and that the incident would continue for some time.
