The superstar singer and professional footballer met on the set of “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” by Shakira, which was the official song of the 2010 World Cup.

Shakira told Entertainment Tonight that Gerard, who was playing in the World Cup at the time, told her: “I will win this World Cup so I can see you in the finals.”
They have two children together – Milan, who is nine, and Sasha, who is seven.

“We are sorry to confirm that we are splitting up,” the two said in a joint statement to E! News.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy,” the statement said. “Thanks for understanding.”
