The Met Office issues a thunderstorm warning for Greater Manchester

Although the anniversary weekend has so far seen a wave of warm weather and plenty of sunshine, the Meteorological Service has warned that things will soon get worse.

A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for large parts of England, including the North West and Greater Manchester. The yellow warning will be in effect for Sunday, June 5 from 12 to 18 hours.

Storms pose a risk of flooding homes and businesses with potential damage to some buildings from floods and lightning strikes. Train and bus delays will be expected in areas where floods or lightning may occur.

Met Office meteorologist Stephen Keats added: “There is something like a north / south divide in our time over the weekend, with the southern regions bearing the brunt of several rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms, and the northern areas looking good, dry and light. warm as well as sunny weather.

“Such great contrasts in the UK, but for some of us the weather can create a few problems over the next few days and at least be uncomfortable, given that there are many outdoor plans and celebrations that I expect in the minds of many people. ”
