3 stabbed and 9 arrested – police statement
Police released a report of the incident. They said three men in their 20s had been stabbed and nine had been arrested so far.
The statement read:
Nine people were arrested after an incident at Belgrave Gate in the early hours of this morning (Sunday), in which three people received stab wounds.
Police were called at 4.08 a.m. to fight on Abbey Street, Leicester.
Officers attended where two men, both in their 20s, were found at Belgrave Gate with stab wounds. Both were taken to hospital, where they remain at the moment. One of the men was reportedly in serious but stable condition. The second man has injuries that are not considered life-threatening or life-changing.
A third man, about 20, appeared in hospital shortly after the incident. He said he received a stab wound in the accident. He is currently in hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening or life-changing.
After initial inspections of the scene, nine people, aged 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 27 and 28, were detained in connection with the incident. All of them are currently in custody.
A full investigation has been launched and detectives are urging anyone with any information about the incident to contact.
Detective Inspector Simon Pearson said: “We are conducting a full investigation to find out what happened. Site protection remains in place as our team continues to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.
“The incident happened in the early hours of this morning in the city center. If you have been to the area, please consider anything you may have seen or heard that may help our inquiries. If you have a video surveillance recording and you have not yet talked to the police about whether you have driven in the area and you have a dashboard recording, please contact us.
“It simply came to our notice then. We have employees in the area who talk to people and offer reassurance. Please talk to them and make sure that a full investigation is currently underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. “
