Apple announces a redesigned MacBook Air with M2 chip and MagSafe

Apple’s WWDC is not an event that traditionally involves several hardware messages, but a new MacBook Air came on the scene during the keynote speech. The new 2022 model is designed around the more powerful M2 processor and its design is close to that of the 14-inch MacBook Pro, with a more square look than the traditional wedge shape. It features MagSafe charging, two Thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack. It is 11 mm thick and comes in at 2.7 pounds. It will be available in silver, space gray and new “star” gold and “midnight” blue colors.

This MacBook Air will be available in July for $ 1199. The M1-based Air will continue to be available for $ 999.

The MacBook Air 2022 has a larger 13.6-inch display with smaller bezels around it. Apple says it has 500 nits of peak brightness. It features a quiet fanless design, which is impressive given the increase in performance that Apple claims is squeezing out of the M2. Apple says it’s 40% faster than the previous model, but that performance boost probably varies by application.

In terms of some of the small but important specs, this MacBook Air gets a 1080p FaceTime HD webcam, as well as new microphones and speakers that support Dolby Atmos. Apple offers a new power adapter that has two USB-C ports, which allows it to quickly charge up to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.

Not to be outdone by the news, Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro also gets the M2 update. So, for all of you Touch Bar lovers, you can have the best performance with, well, an interesting way to control your functional order. This model will be available for $ 1,299.
