Apple’s main note for WWDC 2022: Follow along with our live blog.

Apple today unveiled iOS 16, the company’s next major iPhone update, including a redesigned, customized lock screen, new sharing and customization features, and more.

An all-new, fully customized lock screen allows users to edit a large number of design elements for a more personalized look. The new lock screen also includes gadgets, and Apple says there are millions of possible combinations. Users can create multiple lock screens and switch between them.

Notifications already start at the bottom of the screen and can be easily hidden. Live activities make it easy to follow events in real time, such as playing music or training.

Focus modes have been refined, now allowing users to link focus modes to a specific custom lock screen. Focuses can also be activated by dragging between locked screens. Focus filters allow users to filter out distracting content in applications such as Safari tab groups, Calendar events, or Messaging conversations.

Messages now includes the ability to edit and delete sent messages, as well as the ability to mark messages as unread. New Shared With You API allows developers to integrate shared experiences directly into their applications.
