Consumer inflation data, Amazon share split, Yellen testimonials – top week ahead

Consumer inflation will be a major economic focus this coming week, along with another round of corporate profits and what could be more volatile for U.S. stocks.

The Nasdaq Composite fell 2.4 percent on Friday, the S&P 500 fell 1.6 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 1 percent or 349 points. Yields on 10-year bonds rose to 2.955% as investors expect further increases in Federal Reserve interest rates.

Profits will increase on Tuesday with Chico’s FAS, Cracker Barrel, JM Smucker, REV Group and United Natural Foods before the market opens. Meanwhile, Casey’s General Stores stores will be the focus of post-bell profits.

Winnings on Wednesday’s list will include Brown-Forman, Campbell Soup, J. Jill, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Vera Bradley before the market opens and Five Below after the bell.

The end of the week for economic data will be the consumer price index, which is expected to remain at 8.3% as a 40-year high.
