That’s right, freak freaks. Grab a tasty plastic plate and grow extra ears as David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future soared to the box office charts as a fighter jet piloted by an incredible pilot on his debut, opening up to a staggering $ 1.1 million and landing in … 10th place. This may not look super great, but look at it this way: Crimes Of The Future made a million dollars without even having Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange! And all that million dollars was enough to beat Watcher and put Cronenberg’s movie in the top 10! Come on! Ears in places where there should be no ears!
Anyway, it’s only been two weeks and we’re already coming up with things to say other than “Top Gun: Maverick made a lot of money.” But yes, Top Gun: Maverick made a lot of money, especially the insane $ 85,999,989 (just round up, sir) for a total of nearly $ 300 million (see how easy that was?), Doing it – in just two weeks and without Dr. Strange in it is Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing film in the country. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that its 32 percent drop from last week’s total is the smallest drop the film has ever had since it opened to more than $ 100 million.
The other interesting thing about the box office this weekend is that most of the movies are available to watch at home now, on demand or through streaming services, which certainly contributed to the continued success of Top Gun and Doctor Strange (although the good doctor has fallen a lot far in its five weeks, it is still on the verge of breaking $ 400 million soon). Also, one thing you won’t see in this chart is Morbius, which was released again this weekend for some reason, but apparently didn’t release official numbers – or at least not the numbers that Box Office Mojo, our source for these things I felt obliged to mention.
