Rams restructures Aaron Donald’s contract to make it the highest paid non-QB in NFL history

The future Hall of Fame contestant had first flirted with the idea of retiring after winning the Super Bowl LVI. He had even written that he would return if Rams returned key players such as Von Miller and Odell Beckham, but Miller signed with Buffalo and Beckham remained unsigned.

In the end, it didn’t matter as much as the money. Donald is resetting the market he was already sitting in, moving from the league’s top $ 22.5 million a year to $ 31.6 million a year on average. The new average compensation is $ 10 million more per year than the next closest defender in the interior (Leonard Williams of the Giants).

Money, as we all know, is worth it. Donald is a seven-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler, a Hall of Fame team member in all of 2010, a three-time AP NFL Defender of the Year and rookie of the year 2014. Donald was the epitome of excellence in for most of his career, proving Rams was right by spending his 13th overall pick against him in the 2014 draft.

With the goal of holding it in 2022, Rams may feel more confident about his chances with Donald back in the lineup. General Manager Les Sneed struck out another important item on his to-do list.
