Several people were displaced after a fire broke out in a city complex in Mississauga on Sunday afternoon.
The crews were called to 2869 Battleford Road, a three-story apartment building, shortly after 2 p.m. for a major fire.
A firefighter was injured but no one was injured, officials said. They added that the fire caused significant damage to the roof and attic.
The cause and origin of the fire are unknown.
A total of 36 units in the complex were affected by fire, smoke and / or water, which forced employees to evacuate them. The exact number of people affected is unknown.
Some of the IDPs were told to seek help at the Meadowvale Community Center, where social services, the Emergency Management Service and the Canadian Red Cross were sent to help coordinate shelter, food, clothing and medicine.
Authorities said firefighters would remain on the scene overnight and work with the fire marshal’s service to investigate the fire.
Residents who still need support are asked to call 905-615-4508.
